St Paul's Roman Catholic Primary School

Nursery

Welcome to St. Paul’s Nursery

Our nursery is a fun and exciting place to play, learn and work. We are a 26 place nursery and have two three hour sessions per day. The morning session is from 8.30 to 11.30 and the afternoon session is 12.30 to 3.30. Our teachers are Mrs Craft who works Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Groves who works Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We also have Miss McCue our teaching assistant who works every day in nursery.

In nursery we are very lucky to have our own peg to hang our coat and bag on and our own tray to keep our special things in. Our pegs and trays have our own special picture and name on them. When we come into nursery we put our picture of a piece of fruit with our name on, onto a tree on the wall so that our teachers know we are in nursery.

Our curriculum both indoor and outdoor is centred around seven different areas of development.

These areas are –

Personal, Social and Emotional

Physical

Communication and Language

Literacy

Mathematics

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Expressive Art and Design

We set up different areas (indoor and outdoor) with activities to cover all these areas of development.

We are always busy in nursery and love to learn new things through play. We often work with an adult but lots of our learning takes place when we choose our own activities. We like to learn in lots of different ways, by ourselves, with friends and with adults. Some of the fun things we have in our indoor and outdoor classrooms are, sand, water, role play, small world play construction, painting, book and writing area and lots of other things. We learn a lot of things through topic work and we often change our areas according to what topic we are learning about.

We have an exciting outdoor area and we use this every day. Even when it is raining or snowing we can go outdoors as we are very lucky to have a canopy, jackets and trousers for wet weather and wellies.

Although we choose our own activities most of the time we do have set times for some things. We always have our fruit and milk together, this is a fun time as we can chat and laugh with our friends. We also have carpet time where we learn to listen carefully and join in whole group activities. We love to talk and share things with our teachers and friends during this time

Our nursery is a fun place to be where we are encouraged to become independent learners and learn lots of new things. We hope you have enjoyed reading about our nursery.
