About Year 2

Welcome to Year 2. Mrs Williams is the class teacher of the 30 children in Year 2. Our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Jones and Ms Ronan who each work with the children at various times of the week in our classroom to support our learning.

Our class is a friendly, happy and exciting place to learn. We have everything that we need nearby and have practical exploration areas in our classroom to support our topic work. We also love to display our work and enhance our learning through classroom displays and art & design.

Each day 2 children are chosen to be  helpers, table monitors and class librarian.  These children have responsibility of keeping our classroom tidy and assist with jobs. We choose our lunch options each morning.

We begin our morning with class prayers.  We do Read, Write Inc to help us with our reading and writing and also celebrate Collective Worship either in class or in the hall either as a key stage or whole school. We have very busy days in Year 2 with tasks that help us daily with our reading, English and Mathematics. Our topic work is exciting and it helps us to learn about the world around us as well as important people and events in history. We enjoy PE twice a week. Once with the class teacher and once with Mr. Sheahan. We learn dance, gymnastics, athletics and games. We also have a dedicated lesson each week of PSHCE which helps us to develop our personal, social, health and citizenship education.

We love reading in Year 2 and take a reading book home each night. We have guided reading sessions in class as well as support with our home reading. We visit the library and can take out a different book each week of our choice. Spellings are sent home each week which are supported by our phonics and Spelling jobs in class.

We love to celebrate our achievements. Each week someone is presented with ‘star of the week’ in assembly for achievements in attitude to learning and academics. We also celebrate handwriting improvements each week in assembly. The writer of the week has their work displayed in school and they take a certificate home.

We hope that you have enjoyed reading all about Year 2.  I’m sure that you will agree that it is an exciting place to learn.
