Year 6

Welcome Parents
About Year 6

This year the class are working diligently in their final year of their primary education and are preparing for the challenges of secondary school, while aiming to have fun learning. All of the staff in school are working hard to ensure that the children are successfully fulfilling their potential and growing in self-confidence.

We have a safe and nurturing environment in our classroom, where children feel that their thoughts and opinions are valued. The children’s wellbeing is of fundamental importance to their educational development and we use an open dialogue between home and school to reinforce this.

Within our classroom we celebrate the way that we are all unique and we encourage each other to get along with others. We try to develop positive relationships and to accept when we do something wrong. We try to move on and learn from our mistakes.

Good behaviour is encouraged at all times. Attitude and effort are rewarded through our Dojo points and team points. The children are reminded to follow our class charter and refer to our school values.

In Year 6 the children get lots of opportunity to go on amazing trips and meet many special visitors. All of which provide an enriching curriculum.

We have a very busy timetable. Please view our current Newsletter for our Curriculum topics.

How you can help at home…

  • Please ensure your child revises the Y5 statutory spellings and learns the new Y6 word list. Both documents are available below.

  • Ensure that your child reads every night!

  • Ask questions about the book your child is reading to develop their comprehension skills. A list of example questions are  provided below.

  • Make sure your child brings their reading book to school everyday and their reading journal comments have been completed.

  • Ensure that your child knows the times tables up to 12×12 and the corresponding division facts off by heart.
