About Year 1
Welcome to Class 1. Miss Carnaby is the class teacher of 30 children in Year 1. Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Ellison who helps support our learning.
Our class is a friendly and happy place to learn. We have a cloakroom area and toilets nearby. We also have areas in our class for construction, craft, computing, reading, writing and number work.
Each day two children are chosen to be the helpers for the class. This means they are responsible for certain jobs. They give out fruit at break time and always hold the doors open for the rest of the class as they move around. We love taking on responsibility and becoming helpful members of our school community!
Each day we begin our morning with a class prayer. We do Read Write Inc to help us with our reading and writing and also celebrate Collective Worship either in class or in the hall with other classes. We have busy days which help us to learn to be better readers, writers and mathematicians. Our topics help us to develop knowledge and skills in other subject areas. We particularly love PE which is taught by Mr Sheahan on Fridays.
We have reading books to take home every night and spellings to learn weekly. Homework is half termly and we are allowed to loan a library book each week from our wonderful school library.
Our outstanding behaviour, effort and work is recognised in various ways. We are proud to earn points for our teams for behaviour linked to our Code of Conduct, e.g. showing good manners and being helpful and respectful around school. Dojo points are individually awarded for class based activities, e.g. giving excellent answers and working hard. A ‘Star of the Week’ certificate is also presented during Whole School Assembly to a member of Class 1 who has excelled or stood out from the rest of the class whether that be for effort, behaviour or attitude.
We hope you have enjoyed reading about Class 1 and we are sure you will agree it is a great place to be.
